The book “Moth” is a science fiction novel that follows the exploits of a charming and quick-witted young man named Flinx. He lives on the beautiful planet Moth, which has two golden wings. Flinx has a pet flying snake named Pip and a set of unique talents that enable him to attract travelers and merchants. Flinx earns a living by exploiting the unwary travelers who come to Moth. However, he doesn’t need to be entirely dishonest to do so. His life takes a turn when he steals a starmap from a dead body. Even though he didn’t need to be dishonest, his theft may have been morally questionable. Flinx realizes too late that he may have made a grave mistake when he realizes that the body he took the map from was dead for a reason. The book is full of adventure, action, and a sprinkling of humor as Flinx tries to maneuver himself out of the unexpected danger he finds himself in.

The planet has attracted careless travelers, seasoned space sailors and smugglers—a large, constantly on-the-go group that offers a comfortable income for some as quick as Flinx. and his pet flying snake Pip. Given his quirky talent, picking is easy enough that Flinx doesn’t have to be dishonest… most of the time.

In fact, stealing a star chart from a corpse that doesn’t really need it anymore seems to be dishonest at all. But Flinx is not smart enough. He should have wondered why the body died in the first place…

Both the Flinx and his pet Pip are remarkable creatures. From worlds far different from our own, Flinx, in her late teens, embarks on a journey to find her biological parents. Pip fiercely defends the Flinx, which adds excitement to the Flinx’s own ability to land in dramatic and often unsafe situations. To add to the appeal, Flinx is developing inconsistent strengths. The narrator does a good job.

This story introduces the Listener to the “Humanx Commonwealth” and paints a great picture of Moth. Flinx is young in this story, although written first, this story is written later in the sequel rather than “For Love Of Mother Not” which first appeared in Flinx’s life. Or the Novel stands on its own. The story is an opera/car chase by Rip Roaring Space that is also a mystery. Flinx was introduced to many people who would influence him throughout the series Great Listen Highly Recommended!
