A superb blend of lively fantasy and drama, The Vanished Queen is the trendy story of a young resistance fighter working to overthrow a tyrannical ruler’s regime of terror and lies.

“[G]ripping…this is the novel the world needs.” (Kate Heartfield, Nebula Award finalist and author of the award – winning novel AuroraArcade in Her Fashion)

A long time ago, Queen Mirantha disappeared. King Karolje claims that she was assassinated by a neighboring ruler, but her people know the truth: It was the king who vanished her.

Now, the queen’s disappearance is hardly a memory – just one of many horrors the king’s reign has wrought. But when Anza, a young student haunted by her father’s unjust execution, finds the missing queen’s diary, she’s inspired by Mirantha’s words – she joins the resistance group. war to overthrow the king.

Prince Esvar is the second son of an evil king. Trapped under his thumb and desperate for a way out, a chance encounter with Anza gives him a chance to join the resistance. Together, they may have leverage against the king – but if they fail, their death could mean the complete loss of freedom for generations to come. In this dangerous game of court politics, one mistake can lead to a fate worse than death.

Set in a world where resistance is equally dangerous, The Vanished Queen is a “big, dark, and complicated novel” (Lousia Morgan, author of A Secret History of Witches ) about the courage and sacrifice it takes to take on a tyrant.

Ever since the pandemic started in the US, I’ve really had a hard time reading fiction. Not so with the Vanished Queen. Every time I sit down to read, hours will pass and I will be dozens of pages ahead. The characters are nuanced, the villain is despicable, and the story is a revolt of justice against tyranny. I strongly recommend that you refer to this book.

It’s rare for a fantasy novel to enter directly into the politics of the time without feeling instantly outdated. The Vanished Queen, by focusing on WHY our current political times are so intense, avoids self – dating or becoming an all too obvious allegory while still being something profound and powerful to say. Highly recommended.
