Plot Summary

The plot revolves around the murder of Diana Cowper, a wealthy woman who had arranged her own funeral just hours before she was found dead. Hawthorne enlists the help of Horowitz to document his investigation and turn it into a book. As they delve deeper into the case, they encounter a web of secrets, lies, and unexpected twists that keep readers on the edge of their seats.

The New York Times bestselling author of Magpie’s Murder and Moriarty brilliantly reinvents the classic crime novel again with this clever and inventive mystery starring a fictional version of the author himself as a modern-day Watson to Holmes, investigating a case involving being buried. secrets, murders and a trail of bloody clues.

A woman crosses the streets of London.

It was just after 11 a.m. on a bright spring morning, and she was walking into the funeral parlor to plan her own ceremony.

Six hours later, the woman died, strangled with a crimson curtain cord at her home.

Enter disgraced police detective Daniel Hawthorne, an intelligent, eccentric man who is quick to insult his way through the case. And Hawthorne has a partner, famous novelist Anthony Horowitz, curious about the case and looking for new material.

As gruff, impatient and annoying as Hawthorne is, Horowitz – a seasoned expert on crime stories – suspects the detective may be on to something and is irresistibly drawn into the mystery. Okay. But as the case unfolds, Horowitz finds himself at the center of a story he has no control over…and his brilliant partner may be harboring dark and mysterious secrets of his own. me.

A masterful and complex mystery that plays games on many levels, The Word Is Murder is Anthony Horowitz at his best.

Anthony Horowitz’s new mystery is different, intriguing, beautifully written, and something new. If you read this genre regularly, you will be attracted by the perfection of the story, but even more so by the creativity of the form. I believe I read it described as a super mystery, and it’s actually a story within a story and under another story. I couldn’t put it down, I’m waiting for the sequel and the characters will stay with me for a long time. Hawthorne, (obviously the current Sherlock) is one of the best characters I’ve read about in a while, with all his strange and sometimes annoying behavioral quirks. It’s classic with a post-modern twist but mostly just a great read.
