The Wren Hunt By: Mary Watson – Audiobook Online
The Wren Hunt, Book 1 by Mary Watson is a young adult fantasy novel set in a world where the people are divided into two groups: the Wrens and the Crows. The story follows the protagonist, Lark, a Wren girl who is chosen to participate in the Wren Hunt, a dangerous and treacherous event meant to protect their community from the Crows. The Wren Hunt is a competition where the Wrens hunt a mysterious creature called the Wren’s Heart, believed to hold the power to save their village from the Crows.
During the hunt, Lark encounters several challenges and meets a Crow boy named Corvus, who helps her navigate the dangerous world. As Lark and Corvus grow closer, they discover that the Wrens and Crows may not be as different as they initially thought. Together, they unravel the secrets behind the Wren Hunt and the true intentions of the Wrens and Crows.
Every year on St. Stephen’s Day, Wren Silke is chased through the woods in a twisted version of a childhood game. Her suitors are the judges – a group of powerful and fearsome boys who know nothing of her true identity. If they knew she was a fortune teller – their sworn enemy – it would be game over.
This year, the tension between judges and judges reached its peak. Wren’s survival and that of her family depends on her becoming a spy among the boys she fears most and using her talents and magic to steal the only thing that can restore her strength. her family’s previous strength in a good way. But Wren’s talent also has its price. The more she uses it, the more she loses her grip on reality and soon she’s questioning everything she ever knew about her family, about fortune tellers and judges and about dangerous tattooed stranger who is definitely not on her side….
Raised by his grandfather, Wren Silke grew up in Kilshamble, Ireland. She knows every inch of the town and the forest. And she knew that every year on Stephen’s Day, she would be chased through the woods as part of the annual Wren Hunt.
The Wren hunt is symbolic and not an actual hunt. But the Magistrates – a group with a magical connection to nature – take the hunt very seriously, chasing the Wren until they bleed. As Augurs—people who can use patterns and connections to see the future—Wren and her community are a minority in Kilshamble. With the Judge in control of most of the nemeta—objects from which both groups gain power—it was only a matter of time before the Augurs were completely wiped out.
Eager to help and imagining a future where she won’t be hunted, Wren volunteers to help the Augur regain their advantage (and hopefully some nemeta) by going undercover at Harkness House. But nothing seems as it seems between the Judges or the Augurs and Wren will soon have to decide who she can really trust as she tries to end this bloody feud in Mary Watson’s The Wren Hunt (2018). .
