2000 Audiobook Free Online – Cannery Row By John Steinbeck

Cannery Row happens to be the point of action in this novel which has humor and some emotionally charged moments that never lead to a big tragedy. If compared with other books like Of Mice and Men and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck this book has less violence or at least the type which does not pinch the heart very much. It’s Doc whom the people of the town want to make happy because he has done a lot for the people at Cannery Row during the depression.

Doc has been helping every one of them through all possible means thus now people think that it is time to return him the favor. Henri and Mack decide to arrange a party for Doc, in very quick succession all the people agree to the proposal. Arrangements are made secretly and when the day comes the arrangements just end up blowing everything up that belonged to Doc. Lab and the house of Doc just go on fire and he becomes angry with the people telling them that they should not try to do anything for him.

Later Henri suggests another plan which is of throwing another party for Doc to make him forget what happened in the previous one. There is light comedy along with some minor accidents which Jerry Farden narrates. The end of the story does not conclude every aspect of the novel as some of the things are intentionally left incomplete by the author to make it look more real. Book also shares some of the personal memories of the author related to the era of the great depression.
