The Broken One is an introductory chapter in The Malediction Trilogy. It is a science fiction fantasy novel and written by Danielle L. Jensen. The author has offered science fiction and fantasy lovers promising novels. His most prominent novels are Stolen Songbird and Hidden Huntress.

Two narrators performed together in this audiobook. They are Eric Michael Summerer and Erin Moon. They were quite good throughout except in the scene of the tragic death.

There is a plot getting hatched to overthrow Trollus, a tyrant king. It was happening just below the Forsaken Mountain.  His involvement in things is supposed to be information that is more than a troll for killing to possess. This is the main reason for him to keep it a secret from the world. This also includes the girl that he loves a lot.

After ruining the chances of his sister accidentally becoming a queen, Penelope is provided with one grand and last chance by Duke d’Angouleme, her father. She had no other choice than to make herself productive in the situation. She should look to find that the boy she loves is conspiring against the crown. If she doesn’t succeed in this then all her life will be forfeit. It was now on Penelope and Marc who should look to navigate the multifaceted politics of Trollus. It was a place where the powers were intended to be used as pawns. That pushed them to a point to risk everything.

The Broken Ones didn’t have an amazing beginning but it picked up the pace quite well. The middle and end of this novel were just so fantastic. It will tempt you to go further with the mainstream novels of the trilogy.
