Abby Stein grew up in a Hasidic Jewish community in Brooklyn, isolated in a culture that lived by the laws and customs of 18th-century Eastern Europe, spoke only Yiddish and Hebrew, and was alienated from modern life. grand.

Abby had felt certain as a child that she was a girl. She orchestrated a personal exodus from ultra-Orthodox masculinity to mainstream femininity – a radical choice that forced her to leave her homeland, her family, and her way of life.
