Best Audiobook 2021 – Black Water Rising By Attica Locke
Black Water Rising is an African American novel. It is masterfully written by Attica Locke. This is her debut thriller and the content is quite promising for a novice writer. The other prominent novels from Attica are Bluebird, Bluebird, and The Cutting Season.
Dion Graham has done the narration of Black Water Rising. The performer was wonderful with his sweet velvety voice. He adds quite a lot to the experience of this audiobook.
Porter is hardly a lawyer that he ever wants to be. The most promising client in his contacts is a very poorly paid call girl. He runs his law practice just out of a strip mall. But, he has made peace with the fact of not living his American Dream at all. He has tucked away all his darkest sins in a very careful manner. It was all about the FBI file, the guns, and the trial that almost destroyed his life.
It is in Houston in 1981, where Jay believes that he could make a fresh new start in his life. One night he was on a boat out the ride and saved a woman from drowning. This changed everything in his life and opened a new Pandora’s Box. The secrets in the life of that woman put Jay’s life in danger. It pulled Jay into an investigation of a murder case which could put his law practice in danger. This may also be dangerous for his life, including his family.
The novel is set in Houston in the 1980s and it makes a really good read. The book is just as dangerous and atmospheric as its title, Black Water Rising. You will love every bit of it including its plot, characters, and vocal performance.
