Home Fires – Fire from the Sky Book 5
Home Fires is the fifth science fiction book in the Fire from the Sky series by author N.C. Reed. Clay tries to protect a farm full of people he doesn’t want to protect either, including his own family. “There is no plan to survive contact with the enemy.” It’s an idiom Clay Sanders knows very well.

Review 1: Home Fires – Fire from the Sky Book 5 audiobook by Trina Bradford
Amazing production
Best production I’ve heard! Well written and performed! I’ve seen reviews complaining about pauses etc in the reading and performance but can’t understand them. This whole series has just been GREAT. No complaints here. In fact i wish there were more than 7 books and if there ever are I will be buying those too. NC Reed had outdone himself and that’s saying a lot with how much I loved his other book. Much love and appreciation goes out to him and his skill in storytelling. He’s the kind of person I’d give anything to meet and will support in his endeavors in the future. Being a disabled vet I can appreciate his accuracy but intentional slight omissions to protect the general populace. Thank you sir… I don’t know that you would read these reviews but you are a man to be admired and hope you know that.
Review 2: Home Fires – Fire from the Sky Book 5 audiobook by Anij
Who really wrote this?
I have devoured everything Reed has written and always purchase his new books as soon as they come out. THIS book was surely written by someone else. The writing is terrible and the story is a big nothing-burger with mostly fluff and padding. Hours of mind-numbing filler that isn’t interesting or compelling. Additionally, the writing offers very little “showing” and way too much “telling,” such as Jake said, Jill stated, Tom said, etc, which left me groaning WAY too often. Combine that all with a mediocre narrator – made me give up on the audiobook before completing it. At least a dozen times I wondered who really wrote this book. Sorry Reed, you know I love you, but this book took a nose dive.
Review 3: Home Fires – Fire from the Sky Book 5 audiobook by Pam Shelton-Anderson
I have really started to like this series a lot and this book has been one of the best yet. A lot of the focus has changed to preparing for and fighting more danger, but also thriving and not just surviving. I really enjoyed the philosophical discussion of censorship vs wanting to protect. The writing has improved over these five books with much better flow and dialogue, though there are still a lot of errors and mistakes (Beverly Sanders vs Beverly Jackson, for example). An editor could have cleaned up most of that. Ordinarily I would have made this a 4-4.5 for errors that are really needless at this point, but I enjoyed it so much, I couldn’t. I do wish that authors wouldn’t paint liberals as communists and socialists (not the same thing btw) because many of us believe in personal accountability etc. My biggest quibble is that I have to wait for book six to meet the new people and I don’t want to wait.
