One of the best of the time in mystery writing David Baldacci presents another master piece that will surely keep on amazing people in the years to come. Though this is the first part of the Atlee Pine series but still the writer has provided us ample details that can make us attached to the FBI agent who is hurt psychologically but still trying to make good use of her life.
All her life Atlee has been asking herself one single question that why the kidnapper took her twin sister instead of her. According to most it was a decision that the monster of a man made in haste but Atlee knows that he intentionally made the decision. Now trying to leave behind her past she tries to solve cases for the department that no one else could handle.
She is at Arizona having a watch on the Grand Canyon and the people who visit the place when the tragedy occurs. One of the tourists has been abducted or it seems that he vanished into thin air without a trail. The investigation lead Atlee to a hell of a plot that can even engulf the democracy in her country. The more she wants to look deeper in the case the more her officials try to stop her from investigating any further. Thus leaving her career behind Atlee stands tall among the rest of the people of her department.
The moment she tries to get closer to the culprit she begins to now things that should be rather left untouched. It is over all a wonderful story the one that will make you listen to the other books like One Good Deed and A Minute to Midnight. The plot is appealing but not too complex in any regard. The voices of Brittany Pressley and Kyf Brewer also make the things easy for the listener. You can feel the least of the pauses when these two are narrating something and that is their strength.
