Nemesis is a literary fiction book by author Agatha Christie.
In complete disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel. An acquaintance she had briefly met during her travels. He left instructions for her to investigate the crime after his death. He did not tell her who was involved or where or when the crime was committed.
She faces a new crime…the ultimate crime…murder. It seems someone is adamant that the evils of the past remain buried….

Mr. Rafiel’s first encounter in the Carribean Mystery posed a challenge to Mrs. Marple. He expects her to become Nemesis, by solving a past crime.
When Miss Marple first received the request, she was given no information, but after she agreed, she received an invitation to take a bus tour that included the famous houses and gardens. .
The mystery from the past concerns the death of a young woman who was planning to marry his son Rafiel.
I enjoyed the plot in this book and the supporting characters were great, my favorite being Professor Wanstead.
When you read a book from another era, This book was written in 1971, you have to take into account that opinions have changed. The references to a woman’s manners and how parents want their daughters to cry when they are raped so they won’t be seen as indulgent are definitely not my favorite parts of the book.
The solution to crime and the reasons behind it is unbelievable.
Agatha Christie certainly has some outdated ideas in her books but the appeal to her books remains because of her immense talent.
