The Danish Girl – Audiobook Online
The Danish Girl – Audiobook Online By: David Ebershoff
Now a major Oscar-winning feature film, starring Oscar winners Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander and directed by Oscar-winning Tom Hooper.
Inspired by a true story, this tender portrait of marriage asks: What do you do when someone you love has to change? It begins with a question, a simple favor of a wife of her husband as the two are painting in their studio, creating a transformation that no one could have foreseen.
Combining fact and fiction into an original romantic vision, The Danish Girl eloquently portrays the unique intimacy that defines every marriage and the remarkable story of Lili Elbe, the pioneer in transgender history, and the woman is torn between loyalty to her marriage and her own ambition and lust.
The Danish Girl’s fine prose and generous emotional understanding make it, after hearing the last line, a deeply moving first novel about one of the most passionate and unusual love stories. most of the 20th century.
David Ebershoff sensitively handles the relationships of the characters as they unfolded in this story. His portrayal of the complex issues by each of the characters was thoughtful and demonstrates empathy as time and circumstances. Davids writing evoked beautiful images of Lili as well as images of Copenhagen, Paris and California, and whilst I had a deep sense of sadness at the completion of the book, I shared in Lili’s aspirations.
Although well written, it was very dark and not the book I was expecting. It has very complex characters that are sometimes difficult to follow. Overall, you want to get it done to find out what’s going to happen, but it takes a long time to get there.
