The Kill Artist – Gabriel Allon Book 1 By Daniel Silva
Daniel Silva is the #1 New York Times author of The Kill Artist. He is an American journalist and an author who is known for his thriller and espionage novels. The novel in the discussion is the first one that features Gabriel Allon. It is a political, suspense, and spy fiction novel. If you are looking for something similar, listen to The English Assassin. Also, if you want more of the author’s work, check out The New Girl.
George Guidall is excellent as the narrator of this book. He has a warm and mature voice that is good for such a novel. He can also adopt his voice for many different characters, even female ones.
The author paints the portrait of a hero who has the tall task to prevent an enemy from destroying a precarious peace deal. After his son and wife are killed, Gabriel retires from his anti-terror career and adopts another job – art restoration.
Then, news reaches to him that Tariq al-Hourani is on the loose again and is beginning to launch a killing spree to destroy Middle East peace talks. He was the person responsible for the death of Gabriel’s family, thus, this starts to become personal. Gabriel slips into the world of intrigue in a game of hide-and-seek to finish off the terrorist once and for all. However, Gabriel is not just fighting for his country. This time, he is fighting for revenge for the killing of his family. He will surely get his chance when he comes face-to-face with the enemy.
Despite this being the introductory novel to the Gabriel Allon series, it is certainly not the best one. However, the series ages like fine wine, and thus, anyone interested in the series should start with this one.
