The Black Flamingo – Audiobook Online

Stonewall Book Award Winner
A Time Magazine The best YA book of all time

A fierce young adult verse novel about identity and the power of resistance, by acclaimed poet and performer Dean Atta. Perfect for fans of Elizabeth Acevedo, Jason Reynolds and Kacen Callender.

Michael is a multiracial gay teenager who grew up in London. Throughout his life, he has navigated what it means to be Greek Cypriot and Jamaican – but never feels Greek or Black enough.

As he got older, the arrival of Michael was just the beginning of knowing who he is and where he fits in. When he discovered Drag Society, he finally found where he belonged – and Black Flamingo was born.

Told with honesty, depth and lyricism, this debut explores the layers of identity that make us who we are – and allows us to shine.

“In this exhilarating coming-of-age novel told in accessible verse, Atta chronicles the growth and glory of Michael Angeli, an interracial child from London, as he explores his cultural identity as Cypriot and Jamaican and his emerging sexual orientation.” (Publishers Weekly, “An Anti-Racist Children’s and YA Reading List”).

Poetry fiction is not something I read a lot. I may have said before that was not my thing. Absolutely love this! It is read by the Author and that gives it extra meaning. Will definitely read/listen to this Author again.
