From award-winning novelist Wendy Webb, a modern-day haunted house story set in Lake Superior.

Grace Alban has spent 20 years away from her childhood home, the stately Alban House on the shores of Lake Superior – for reasons she would rather forget. But when her mother’s sudden death brings Grace and her teenage daughter home, she finds more than just her own demons haunting the halls and aisles of Alban House.

Long-buried family secrets, a package of old love letters, and a lost manuscript plunge Grace into a decades-long mystery about a scandalous party at Alban House in which a famous author world famous committed suicide and Grace’s aunt disappeared without a trace. That night has been hidden by the powerful Alban family all these years, and Grace finds her family secrets as tangled and twisted as dark as the secret passages of the Alban House.

Her mother intended to tell the truth about that night to a reporter on the very day she died. Could it be a murder, or is she the victim of the supposed Alban curse? With the help of the kind and engaging Pastor Matthew Parker, Grace must uncover the truth about her house and its curse before she and her daughter become the next victims.

Wendy Webb weaves a suspenseful mystery that deftly crosses the line between what is mystical and what is psychological.

I almost gave this book back for the first 4 chapters, but then everything changed. A book in a book… Oh My! It holds my interest because of the characters. The last 8 chapters of this book I can’t stop listening to. So very good narration and writing.

Really hold my interest, very spooky. The ending is kind of eh but overall good book. Performance issues cause the sound to wobble and be hard to hear at times. It’s nice to have a creepy story that isn’t just full of gore. Would like to introduce.
