NORSE MYTHOLOGY By Neil Gaiman

The author never took direct help from the ancient mythologies but his books especially those with fictional stuff in them appear to have inspiration for these old myths. Neil Gaiman studied these books in detail and then started following the pattern but he never copied any material from anywhere. Norse Mythology can rather be considered as a book in praise of these old thoughts which continued influencing the author’s mind since the first day when he brought out his pen.

The book starts with the concept of the legendary nine world picture in the mind and then it reaches Ragnarok where Odin is ruling everything with his magical powers. By his side are his two sons, one of which shows raw power and the other one believes in his tricks. Thor does not use his mind a lot because he thinks his hammer will always be there to solve problems for him. Loki takes this arrogance of his brother as an opportunity to take things into his own hands without being noticed. Good Omens and Stardust also show the passion of the author which is slowly shifting towards fiction now. Neil Gaiman enjoys narrating these stories too because there is more variety in the characters.

Each tale brings new fun for the audience along with some action which is not the bloodshed sort on most of the occasions. The author keeps the stories in a lighter mood so that the stories don’t get into the role of scary movies. Even if there is something scary in the stories the next scene balances all of it very nicely and the mind of the listener is pacified.
